From Malcolm:
The course is just on the outskirts of Durham City which is a compact area so any accommodation in or near to the City will be near to the New College venue.
Durham is a major tourist site and is well supplied with Hotels and other places to stay. At the pricey end there is Lumley Castle (about 5 miles out of town, 0191 3891111) and The Durham Marriot Hotel Royal County (very central, 0191 3866821).
There are three Premier Travel Inns around Durham. Durham North Premier Inn is about 1 mile from the College followed in proximity by Durham East then Durham South. All are within about 3 miles of the college. www.ukbed.com lists these and B+B near by.
Travelodge Durham (Station lane Gilesgate DH1 1LJ) is central in the city for those wanting a good session in town.
For those wanting something different, some of the University Colleges offer very reasonable B+B. These include:-
University College Durham Castle (actually in the castle)-0191 3344106.
College of Hild and St.Bede-0191 3348552.
Pubs :-
The Victoria Inn (very central traditional Victorian Inn)-0191 3865269.
The Avenue Inn (basic but on the outskirts)-0191 3865954.
The above can all be found by Googling accommodationbritain durham.
Last minute very cheap rooms may be found by 'phoning 0870 4786321.
Finally, we will try to find beds/settees/floor space for any visitors wanting a room for the night and not needing more formal accommodation.
Thank you.
